Dear Vista Family,
It is with great honor and enthusiasm that I continue to serve as the Principal of Vista Heritage Global Academy. Last year, we made significant strides as a school. We made great academic gains, including almost doubling our scores from previous years in certain areas, we were granted full WASC Accreditation status, and we became a part of the prestigious International Studies Schools Network, as we re-branded and became a global academy.
My motto for the 2018-19 school year is “Building Greatness,” which will take shape on multiple levels. First, we will continue to build greatness on an individual level through learning about each student’s academic and socio-emotional learning needs, and provide a supportive, yet rigorous educational experience. Second, Vista Heritage Global Academy will continue to build greatness by creating traditions and establishing itself as a top-notch, innovative school that educates the whole-child.
The city of Santa Ana and the surrounding communities in Orange County deserve high quality educational opportunities for its kids, and I am passionately dedicated to bring that to Vista Heritage Global Academy. When I think back to my own experiences in middle school, it was the brilliant teachers, the support to persevere through my struggles, and the compassion that I received that made the difference and set me on a trajectory for the rest of my life. Since education has transformed my life in many ways, I will use my passion for learning, expertise in classroom instruction, and knack for innovation to enrich learning opportunities at Vista.
Vista Heritage will transform the school experience for its students, families, and the surrounding community of Santa Ana by integrating a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) focus with global education – a first of its kind. Through the STEAM focus, Vista students will have the opportunity to consistently participate in real-world, hands-on activities that will peak their intellectual curiosity in a rich, collaborative atmosphere. We are proud to offer Project Lead the Way this year at Vista Heritage, which will be a great opportunity for our kids to collaborate on real-world, hands-on STEAM projects. In addition, as a new global academy, Vista Heritage students will be building global competence by investigating the world around them, understanding and recognizing different perspectives, communicating their ideas to authentic audiences using multiple modalities and various media, and finally taking action to make the world and their community a better place.
Throughout the year, I will often refer to our school community as the “Vista Family.” Family is extremely important to me, and I believe that building a family atmosphere where all school stakeholders demonstrate respect and genuine care for one another results in a highly effective learning environment. Our Vista parents also play a key role within the Vista Family. As a school, we promise consistent and open communication by regularly updating all Vista families about school-based events, opportunities, and academic progress. Finally, safety always comes first at Vista. I will work diligently to make sure every student and staff member feels physically and emotionally safe at all times. Together, as the Vista Family, we will create a rich, nurturing learning environment that will open doors for our scholars to achieve future success.
