Dear Vista Family,
I am humbled and honored to serve as the Principal of Vista Heritage Charter Middle School. Vista Heritage is an incredible school in an amazing community in Santa Ana, and I am excited to partner with all Vista stakeholders to bring a top notch education to our scholars. Education has transformed my life in many ways, and I will use my passion for learning, expertise in classroom instruction, and knack for innovation to enrich learning opportunities at Vista. Over the past seven years, I have served the youth of Los Angeles as a Math and Economics Teacher, Math Instructional Coach, and Assistant Principal. In addition, I recently finished and successfully defended my dissertation on “How Principals of International Studies High School Principals Promote Global Competence” to complete my Doctorate in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.) Program at USC in Fall 2016. As an educator, I believe that it is our purpose to equip our youth with the skills necessary to be confident, productive citizens of the world. Therefore, I will promote skills, such as a growth mindset, empathy, creativity, and collaboration at Vista. These skills will serve as a foundation that will guide our learning at Vista.
At Vista, we “transform the school experience.” In order to do so, we create a family atmosphere centered around the 3 R’s: Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience. Respect is achieved by seeing the positive in everyone, greeting others with a friendly smile, and treating them as you would like to be treated. Responsibility is necessary to build trust and rapport; building blocks to an effective educational environment. Resilience is the ability to bounce back after enduring an adverse situation or experience. At Vista, we will promote the concept of “failing forward” by building resilience, self-reflection, and plenty of outside support.
Our Vista parents play an essential role within our school community. We look forward to building fruitful partnerships with every parent to be active members in their child’s education. In order to reach this goal, open home-to-school communication is critical. As a school, we promise to regularly update all Vista families about school-based events, opportunities, and academic progress. Finally, safety comes first at Vista. We will work diligently to make sure every student and staff member feels physically and emotionally safe at all times.
This year, my goals revolve around two main concepts: Learning and Growth. During my first year at Vista, I look forward to learning about the values and traditions that have made Vista Heritage a great school community. I also expect to learn a great deal about each of our students, staff, parents, and community partners, as I strive to be the best leader for the Vista Heritage Family that I could possibly be. Concurrently, I am excited to share my background, educational experiences, and vision with everyone. Together, we will create a rich, nurturing learning environment that will open doors for our scholars to achieve future success.
